School Time Schedules
School Doors Open & Supervision Begins at 7:15 a.m. - This is when our staff is ready to welcome students on campus and ensure their safety.
- 7:15 AM Breakfast in the Cafeteria: Students can enjoy a healthy breakfast in the cafeteria.
- 7:40 AM Report to Class: The first bell rings as a friendly reminder to head to your classrooms.
- 7:45 AM Learning Begins: Class starts promptly at this time. Students arriving after this bell will be marked as tardy. We know that sometimes things happen, but being on time helps everyone get the most out of their learning.
- 11:00 AM Half Day Dismissal (see calendar for dates)
- 1:00 PM Wednesday TCT Release (see calendar for dates)
- 2:30 PM Regular School Day Ends: Time to head home or to after-school activities!
Students Arriving and Leaving School
Staying on Campus:
Once students arrive at school, we ask that they remain on campus until dismissal unless permission from the office. This helps us keep everyone safe and accounted for.
Going Home After School:
When the school day ends, students should go directly home unless they are participating in a supervised after-school program.
Changes to How Your Child Goes Home:
We understand that plans can change! To ensure your child's safety, any change in their dismissal routine (even for just one day) must be communicated to their teacher and the school office in writing or via email to Camelviewoffice@madisoned.org. Please also include your teacher(s) on the email. For your child’s safety, we cannot make changes to dismissal plans after 1:45 PM. This also includes picking up students early within the last 30 minutes of the school day, as it can be disruptive to learning.
Picking up your Child During the School Day:
If you need to pick up your child during school hours, please come to the office to sign them out. For your child's safety, the person picking them up must be listed as an approved contact in PowerSchool and present a valid photo ID. We appreciate your understanding as we prioritize the safety of all our students.
Returning to School After an Appointment:
If your child leaves school during the day (with permission) and returns, they must check back in with the office to record their return time.
Attendance and Tardy Information
Attendance: Working Together for Your Child's Success
We believe that being in school every day and on time is key to your child's learning and growth. Arizona State Law recognizes the important role of parents and guardians in making sure students attend school consistently. When students are absent, tardy, or leave early, it can interrupt their learning and the learning of others. Our goal is for all students to attend at least 90% of school days.
We understand that sometimes absences are unavoidable. To help us keep accurate records, please follow these guidelines:
Reporting an Absence: If your child will be absent, please call our Attendance Office at 602-664-7221 within 24 hours of the absence. You can also email us at Camelviewoffice@madisoned.org. Please note that calls from students cannot be accepted. If you send a note when your child returns, it also needs to be received within 24 hours of the absence. If we don't hear from a parent or guardian, the absence will be marked as unexcused.
24-Hour Voicemail: For your convenience, our voicemail is available 24 hours a day at 602-664-7221 to report an absence.
What to Include When Reporting an Absence: When you call or email, please clearly state your child's name, grade, and the specific reason for their absence.
Being On Time (Tardiness): School begins at 7:45 AM. Students arriving at or after this time are considered tardy and must check in at the Main Office before going to class. Tardies are recorded on student report cards. Please know that excessive tardiness can add up to significant learning time missed.
Excused Absences: We understand that there are valid reasons for missing school. Absences will generally be excused for reasons such as:
- Bereavement (loss of a loved one)
- Other serious family emergencies
- Observance of major religious holidays
- Illness (a doctor's note may be required for frequent absences) We encourage you to schedule family trips during school breaks to minimize disruption to your child's learning.
The Importance of Regular Attendance: Consistent attendance is crucial for your child's academic progress and their social-emotional development.
What Happens When Attendance is a Concern:
We want to work with you to ensure your child attends school regularly. Here's how we address attendance concerns:
- 5 Absences: You will receive a letter from the school as a friendly reminder about the importance of regular attendance.
- 10 Absences: We will schedule a meeting with a school administrator to discuss your child's attendance. During this meeting, we will create an action plan together, outlining how we can support improved attendance.
- 15 Absences: We will meet again with a school administrator to review the action plan. At this point, you will also receive a warning that continued absences may result in a referral to the Maricopa County Juvenile Court C.U.T.S. (Court Unified Truancy Suppression) program.
- 19+ Absences: Your child will be considered to have "excessive absences" and will be referred to the CUTS program through the Juvenile Court. A hearing at the Juvenile Court Center will be required, and a parent or legal guardian must attend with the student. More information about potential consequences can be found in the Madison School District Student & Parent Handbook.
- Open Enrollment Students: For students attending Camelview through open enrollment, failing to improve attendance may lead to a recommendation to a Hearing Officer for the revocation of their open enrollment status.
We are here to support you and your child in maintaining good attendance. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you are facing challenges that are impacting your child's ability to come to school.
Camelview Late Pick Up Procedures
Late Pick-Up Procedures: Keeping Our Students Safe
At Madison Camelview Elementary, the safety of our students is our top priority. We want to make sure every child is supervised until they are safely back in your care at the end of the school day.
We become concerned when students are left waiting after dismissal. Our school is not staffed to provide ongoing supervision after school hours, and this can be unsettling for children.
What to Expect If Your Child is Picked Up Late:
We understand that unforeseen circumstances can sometimes lead to late pick-ups. However, to ensure the safety and well-being of all students:
- First Offense: You will receive a friendly reminder from the office staff.
- Second Offense: You will receive a second reminder.
- Third Offense: We will request a meeting with school administration to discuss a plan for on-time pick-up.
- More Than Three Offenses: We may be required to report this to the Department of Child Safety and the Phoenix Police Department as it raises concerns about student safety and supervision.
Thank you for partnering with us in prioritizing your child's safety by ensuring timely pick-up.
After-School Care Option: If you are unable to pick up your child at our regular dismissal time, we offer a wonderful after-school program called MAC (Madison Afterschool Centers). This program is available until 6:00 PM. You can find more information and register online through the Community Education Department on the Madison School District website at madisonaz.org.
Withdrawal from School
Withdrawing Your Child from School
If you need to withdraw your child from Camelview, please come to the school office to complete and sign a withdrawal form on their last day of attendance. At this time, we also ask that all school materials, including library books, are returned, and any outstanding cafeteria balances are cleared.
If you know you will be moving out of our school area, please let the office know at least one day in advance so we can prepare the necessary paperwork for you to sign. Once a child has been officially withdrawn, they cannot return to school until they are re-enrolled by a parent or legal guardian. For students attending on open enrollment who are withdrawn, a new open enrollment application must be submitted and approved by administration for readmission.
Calendar
Stay Up to Date with Our Calendar!
To help us be environmentally friendly and keep you informed of any calendar changes, our school calendar is available online at the following links. We encourage you to subscribe!
If you need a paper copy of the calendar, please don't hesitate to ask for one in the main office.
School Uniforms
Our School Uniform
Working Together for a Focused Learning Environment
We believe that our school uniform helps create a positive and focused learning environment for all students. Here are our uniform expectations:
- Shirts: Students should wear solid white, light blue, or navy (not royal blue) collared or polo shirts, or any official Camelview spirit shirt. Please note that shirts should not have any logos, designs, decorative stitching, or stripes, except for official Camelview items. Shirts must be long enough to cover the belly. Sleeveless shirts, spaghetti straps, and off-the-shoulder styles are not permitted. These guidelines also apply to any sweatshirts, sweaters, and jackets worn in the classroom.
- Bottoms: Students can wear solid navy or khaki shorts, skirts, skorts, jumpers, pedal pushers, or pants. Pants should fit appropriately at the waist to avoid sagging. Denim is not part of our uniform policy.
- Legwear: Leggings, tights, and knee-high socks must be solid uniform colors (white, light blue, or navy). Stripes, patterns, or other designs are not allowed.
- Condition of Uniforms: Please ensure that uniforms are free of holes or tears.
- Shoes: For safety reasons, Heelys (shoes with wheels), flip-flops, and slides are not permitted. Closed-toe shoes are best for active learning and play.
- Hats and Hoods: Hats and hoods are not allowed to be worn indoors. They can be worn outdoors for protection from the weather.
We appreciate your support in helping your child adhere to our uniform policy. If you have any questions or need assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to the school.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Let's Help Items Find Their Way Home!
Our lost and found is located just outside the front office. We encourage students and parents to check this area frequently if something goes missing. Items will be kept for a short period of time, and then they will be donated to a local charity. To help us return lost items, please write your child's first and last name on all clothing and personal belongings they bring to school.
Cafeteria Service
Delicious and Nutritious Meals in Our Cafeteria!
Camelview Elementary is proud to offer both breakfast and lunch to our students. For information about meal prices or to apply for the free or reduced-price meal program, please visit our Food and Nutrition webpage at Food and Nutrition web page.

Celebrating Birthdays at School
We love celebrating our students! If you would like to provide a treat for your child's entire class, please make arrangements through our cafeteria. You can download a birthday celebration order form here
https://www.madisonaz.org/families/food-nutrition-services/birthday-program
or pick one up in the office. Please submit the completed form at least 7 days in advance to arrange the treat and payment. For the safety and well-being of all our students, food purchased outside of the cafeteria cannot be accepted for classroom celebrations.
Drop Off/Pick Up
Safe Arrival and Departure: Our Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures
To ensure the safety and smooth flow of traffic during drop-off and pick-up times, please follow these procedures:
Drop Off (7:15 AM - 7:40 AM):
- Bus Riders: Students arriving by bus will be dropped off in the designated bus lane and will enter campus through the field gate.
- Family Valet Loop (Campbell Ave.): If you are driving your child to school, please use the valet loop off Campbell Avenue between 7:15 AM and 7:40 AM.
- Kindergarten through 4th-grade students will enter through the "Commons" doors.
- Walkers & Bike Riders: Students who live nearby and walk or bike to school should walk their bikes while on campus and park them in the fenced bike area.
- Breakfast Visitors: If you are on your child's approved check-out list and would like to join them for breakfast, please sign in at the school office first and get a visitor badge before heading to the cafeteria. Our office staff will assist you with the visitor registration process, which requires a valid government-issued ID. Please wear your visitor badge while on campus. *Visitors may not go beyond the cafeteria.
- Visiting Campus Before School: Any visitor wishing to come on campus before the start of the school day must first sign in at the front office using our district-wide Raptor visitor management system and present a legal form of identification. Raptor photo identification badges must be worn by all adults while on campus.
Pick Up (2:30 PM):
- Family Valet Loop (Campbell Ave.) - Grades K-3 (One Child): If you have only one child in kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, or 3rd grade, please pick them up in the valet loop off of Campbell Avenue at 2:30 PM.
- These students will exit through the door to the right of the main office.
- Retention Grassy Area - Grade 4 (One Child) & Multi-Student/Daycares: If you have one child in 4th grade or are picking up multiple students or students from a daycare, please use the pick-up area in the retention grassy area (veer left upon entering).
- Walkers & Bike Riders: Students who walk or bike home will exit the campus through the cafeteria doors.
- Using the Valet Lanes: Due to the traffic flow and safety concerns with our second pick-up lane going through the school parking lot, we kindly ask that all parents use the designated valet lanes for picking up your child. Please do not park your car in the lot and walk up, as this can create significant traffic congestion.
Thank you for your cooperation in following these procedures to ensure the safety of all our students during arrival and dismissal.
Student Identification Cards
Student Identification Cards: Helping Us Ensure a Safe and Secure Campus
Students are required to have a school-issued identification card (ID) at all times during the school day. Students must be in possession of their ID at all school related functions. In addition, the ID is required to ride the school bus to or from school. ID’s will be issued at the start of the school year and attached to student backpacks. It is the responsibility of the student to maintain this card. In the event that the card is lost or stolen, the student will be responsible for purchasing a replacement card for $3.00. Replacement cards can be purchased from the school librarian.
School-Wide Behavioral Expectations for Camelview Students
School-Wide Behavioral Expectations for Camelview Students:
The Camelview CUBS Way!
At Camelview Elementary, we believe that school discipline is a team effort, requiring the cooperation of students, parents, administrators, school staff, and our community. In all areas of our school – classrooms, playground, cafeteria, and buses – our goal is to create a positive, safe, and supportive learning environment where everyone can thrive. To help us achieve this, we use PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports). PBIS is a research-based, school-wide framework that helps us improve our school climate and create a safer and more effective learning community.
A key part of PBIS is having clear and specific school-wide expectations that encourage positive student behavior. At Camelview, we have our CUBS expectations:
- C - Courteous and Respectful: We expect everyone to treat each other with kindness and respect.
- U - Understand Your Responsibilities: We encourage students to be responsible for their actions and their learning.
- B - Be Safe: We prioritize the safety of ourselves and others in all that we do.
- S - Spreading Kindness: We believe in the power of kindness to create a positive and caring school environment.
Throughout the school day, our teachers and support staff recognize and celebrate students who demonstrate our CUBS expectations by awarding points or CUBS tickets.
Cell Phones and Smartwatches
Classrooms will not be interrupted for parent messages unless an URGENT situation arises. Smartwatches and cell phones can be a useful safety tool for families, but they can also be a distraction to students.
Students are not permitted to text or call from their phones or watches during the school day. Students may call home from the classroom phone with permission from the teacher.
If students are ill, they should be assessed through the healthroom instead of students using watches to call parents to be picked up.
Parents should not text or call their students during the day. This becomes a distraction for the student and others in class.
Students may be asked to put their smartwatches or phones in their backpacks or in the office for the school day if they continue to be a distraction in class. Ongoing violations may result in additional consequences.
Gifts for Students
Gifts for Students: Celebrating Outside of Class Time
We understand how exciting it is to celebrate your child! To minimize disruptions to classroom learning, we kindly ask that any gifts for your student be given to them outside of the school day. Our main office staff will not be able to accept or call students down to receive gifts during school hours.
Holiday and Classroom Parties
Holiday and Classroom Parties: Working Together to Minimize Interruptions
Holiday and classroom parties are special times for our students. To help us keep the focus on learning, please have your child bring any party items with them to class in the morning, rather than dropping them off later. For our younger students in kindergarten and first grade, we will have a designated cart outside their classrooms for easy drop-off.
Student of the Month Lunches
Student of the Month Lunches: Celebrating Success!
We love to recognize and celebrate our students' achievements! We hold special Student of the Month lunches to honor their hard work and positive contributions. Parents of the honored students are warmly invited to join their child for lunch during this special event.
School Safety
Keeping Our School Safe: Emergency Preparedness
The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. To ensure we are prepared for any situation, we conduct regular emergency response drills throughout the school year. Our Emergency Response Plan is developed using information from the Department of Homeland Security and the Arizona Department of Education. Our dedicated staff receives ongoing training in best practices for handling campus emergencies through courses offered by the Arizona Division of Emergency Management and FEMA.
Here are the types of drills we practice:
- Fire Drills: All Madison schools perform monthly fire drills.
- Bus Evacuation Drills: All students practice bus evacuation procedures once a semester.
- Shelter in Place Drill: During a shelter in place students remain inside the campus and all exterior doors are locked.
- Lockdown Drills: All Madison schools hold at least two lockdown drills each year. During a lockdown, all campus buildings are closed and locked. No one, other than emergency responders, is permitted to enter or leave the building until the all-clear is given. The auto-dialer system will be activated during lockdowns with an automated response to ensure proper communication.
For your own safety and the safety of the children inside, we respectfully ask that parents refrain from coming to or congregating outside the campus during a school-wide emergency or drill. This allows our staff and emergency responders to focus on the situation at hand. We will communicate important details and instructions to parents via our all-call phone and email system as soon as it is safe to do so. Please understand that staff members are not permitted to answer phones during drills or emergencies to keep phone lines open for critical communication.
Curriculum
Our Curriculum: Building a Strong Foundation for Learning
The Madison School District has carefully aligned all of our curriculum with the Arizona State Standards. Our dedicated teachers use these standards to plan engaging and effective daily lessons. In addition to our adopted curriculum, which includes Into Math, Wonders (for reading and language arts), Inspire Science, and Impact Social Studies, our teachers also utilize Thinking Maps and Write from the Beginning and Beyond to support student learning.
You can find detailed information about the Grade Specific academic standards can be found at: https://www.azed.gov/standards-practices
Our core classroom subjects include reading and language arts, math, science, and social studies. We also offer enriching special area classes in music, art, engineering, and physical education.
Our Wonderful Library: A Place to Explore and Learn!
Students who have parental permission are welcome to check out books from our school library on a regular basis. There are no fees for borrowing library books! However, each student is responsible for the books they check out. If a book is lost, stolen, or damaged, payment for the replacement cost or a replacement book will be required before another book can be issued. We encourage students to take good care of our library resources so that everyone can enjoy them.
Physical Education: Staying Active and Healthy!
Physical education is an important part of our curriculum, helping students develop healthy habits and stay active. All students are required to participate in PE. If your child needs to be excused from PE for up to three days, we require a written request from a parent or guardian. For any absence longer than three days, a written note from your child’s doctor is necessary. Please help your child remember to wear sneakers or other closed-toe shoes on their PE days to ensure their safety during activities.
Supporting All Learners: MTSS
School or teacher teams look at data for the whole child to identify specific needs and develop interventions.Data comes from a variety of sources including Arizona’s Academic Standards Assessment (AASA), Arizona’s Science Test (AzSCI), and Madison assessments: FastBridge, NWEA Measure of Academic Progress (MAP), Madison Common Pacing Assessments (MCPA), classroom assessments, DESSA (social-emotional screener), behavior incidents, attendance, family and teacher input.Data-based decision making is used to identify supports for all students.
Native American Education: Providing Culturally Responsive Support
Instructional assistance is available for Native American students. If you are interested in learning more about these services, please contact Martha Sullivan, msullivan2@madisoned.org. We are committed to providing culturally responsive support that honors the unique backgrounds of all our students.
Site Council
Be a Voice for Our Students: Join the Camelview Site Council!
At Madison Camelview Elementary, we deeply value the partnership between home, school, and our community. That's why we have an active Site Council – a wonderful opportunity for parents and community members like you to have a direct impact on our school's success!
The Site Council is a team made up of teachers, fellow parents, community members, and school staff who work together to discuss important aspects of our school, including our goals, programs, and plans for the future. It's a fantastic way to collaborate and ensure that Camelview Elementary is the best possible learning environment for all our students.
We warmly invite you to consider joining our Site Council! Your unique perspectives and ideas are invaluable as we work together to make a positive difference in the lives of our children.
If you're interested in learning more about how you can contribute, please don't hesitate to call us at (602) 664-7201.
We also want to encourage all parents to feel welcome to visit our school, share your thoughts on how we can improve our programs and schedules, and contribute to the rich and engaging educational experiences we offer our students. Your active participation truly enriches our school community!
Opportunities for Communication
Staying Connected: Opportunities for Communication
Open and consistent communication between home and school is so important for your child's success. To help us stay connected, we encourage all parents to connect with their child's classroom teacher through ParentSquare, a free and user-friendly web-based program. This platform allows for easy messaging, sharing of special events, and updates on classroom activities. All important communication from the classroom & school will be sent home through ParentSquare.
We also encourage you to check your child's grades and attendance regularly through PowerSchool each week. If you have any questions or concerns about your child's academic progress, please don't hesitate to set up an appointment with their teacher. Progress reports will be sent home at the end of each midterm.
It is our standard practice at Madison Camelview Elementary School to keep parents informed throughout the school year. We welcome your compliments, questions, and suggestions for improvement. We will also send out teacher surveys twice a year to gather your valuable feedback.
When we work together – home and school – the chances for your child's success increase dramatically. This strong home-school partnership helps our students become happy, successful, and lifelong learners. Thank you for being an active partner in helping us achieve this important goal!
Meeting with Your Child's Teacher
Our teachers are dedicated to working closely with families. You are welcome to schedule a meeting with your child's teacher at any time throughout the school year. Appointments can be easily arranged through ParentSquare by sending a message to the teacher, or by calling our main office. We kindly ask that you refrain from trying to speak with teachers during student drop-off and pick-up times, as they are focused on ensuring the safety of all children entering and leaving the building.
Our Parent Involvement Statement: Your Role Matters!
To ensure that Madison Camelview School effectively fulfills its mission of developing our students' strengths and confidence by fostering a growth mindset, it is essential that our parents serve as engaged and informed team members. We are committed to providing you with regular academic updates, information about our school's performance, and our improvement goals. Your voice is important, and you will have opportunities to provide both formal and informal feedback to the school.
We warmly invite and encourage you to attend school functions and be active members of our vibrant school community. You will receive frequent communication from the school to keep you informed about our progress and goals. We firmly believe that strong parent support is a key ingredient in achieving our Madison Camelview School improvement goals. To gather your valuable input, parent surveys will be administered once per semester.
Keeping You Informed: Report to Parents
Student progress reports (report cards) for students in Kindergarten through 4th grade are issued four times during the school year. You can check your child’s grades at any time online through PowerSchool.
Parent-Teacher Conferences: Working Together for Your Child's Growth
We hold formal parent-teacher conferences twice a year, in October and February. These conferences provide a valuable opportunity for us to discuss your child's strengths, as well as any areas where they might need additional support. Conferences may be held virtually or in person, depending on availability and your preference.
In addition to these formal conferences, please don't hesitate to request a conference with your child's teacher any time a need arises. We encourage you to reach out if you have any questions or concerns – we want to address them promptly! You can contact your child’s teacher through their district email, ParentSquare, or by phone. Our teachers strive to return all messages within 24 business hours.
Homework
Homework: Extending Learning Beyond the Classroom
The purpose of homework is to provide your child with extra practice on skills they have already learned in class, enrich their classroom experiences, or complete unfinished/missing work. Homework helps students achieve mastery of concepts, maintain and use previously learned skills, develop self-discipline and responsibility, and provides a way for you to stay connected with what your child is learning.
School Related Criminal and Civil Laws
Understanding School Related Laws
We want to ensure a safe and respectful environment for everyone at Camelview. Here are some important Arizona laws related to schools:
Abuse of Teacher or School Employee
Arizona law (ARS 15-507) makes it illegal for any person to knowingly abuse a teacher or other school employee on school grounds or while they are performing school-related duties. We have a zero-tolerance policy for such behavior.
Drug Free Zone
It is unlawful to intentionally be present with one or more persons within 300 feet of a school or its grounds, or on any public property within 1,000 feet of a school or its grounds or a school bus stop, to possess, use, or sell marijuana, dangerous drugs, or narcotic drugs. It is also illegal to do so on a school bus. We are committed to maintaining a drug-free environment for our students.
Custody Matters
In most cases, both natural parents have the right to reasonable access to their children at school. However, exceptions are made when there are court orders that restrict the rights of one parent to access their child and/or the child’s official school records. It is the responsibility of the parent with a court order restricting the other parent's rights to notify school officials and provide a current copy of the court order. In cases where someone other than a natural parent has been granted guardianship, the rights of the natural parents are considered divested unless a court order specifically grants them certain rights. The legal guardian is responsible for informing the school of the guardianship and providing all relevant documentation
Information Regarding Homeless Students
Support for Our Families Experiencing Homelessness
At Madison Elementary School District, we are committed to supporting all of our students and families. We understand that sometimes families may experience homelessness. According to the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act, students may be considered homeless if they are:
- Living in a shelter, motel, vehicle, campground, or other temporary accommodations
- Temporarily staying with friends or relatives because they cannot find or afford housing ("doubled up")
If your child is experiencing homelessness, they have certain important rights and protections under this federal law, including the right to:
- Continue attending school: No matter where you live or for how long you have lived there.
- Enroll immediately: Even without birth certificates, immunizations, or school records.
- Attend school while records are being obtained: The school will assist in the transfer of necessary documents.
- Enroll without a permanent address: Schools cannot delay enrollment due to a lack of a permanent address.
- Continue at their previous school: They can continue attending the school they attended before becoming homeless or their last school attended, if it is in their best interest.
- Receive transportation: To and from their attendance area school or their previous school, if requested.
If you have any questions or concerns, or if your family is experiencing homelessness, please do not hesitate to contact our dedicated social workers:
- Gabby Boerema: gboerema@madisoned.org or 602-664-7265
- Cassie Moore: cmoore2@madisoned.org or 602.664.7286
We are here to help and provide support.
